As some of you may know, it looks as North America will be getting S8 of Lewis before the U.K. It starts in the U.S. on October 5 (a Sunday) whereas the ITV press release says that it will be starting on October 10th (the Friday of that week).
One thing to keep in mind is that US/Canadian Masterpiece Mystery has a 1.5 hr block built into its schedule for most of its crime dramas. And even though the UK chose to break up episodes into 40 minute segments for Lewis S7, Mystery showed the two-part episodes as one continuous episode (minus the next time previews obvi). And based on the fact that S8 of Lewis is only scheduled on the Mystery website for 3 weeks, it looks as though they will do the same.
This means that North America will have the entire episode five days before the UK has even the first half. Now Mystery does cut 5-10 minutes of its 90 minute programs so that they can include an intro by Alan Cumming and thank its sponsors, so its possible that you won’t see the entire episode. Although North America does include the uncut episodes on its DVD/Blu-Ray, I’m still not 100% sure that the episodes on its website are the uncut ones or what was aired on TV. (I know they don’t show the intro?).
- If you’re super impatient to start series 8 and/or want to watch the premiere as a continuous episode, you can do so in the US from October 5th. But be VERY VERY mindful to tag all of your spoilers, particularly those for the second half of the episode.
- If you would rather wait and watch the episodes as the U.K. intended them to be seen as two parters (and definitely with the potentially missing 10 minutes), be very very careful not to watch a US stream that’s longer than 35-50 minutes, as you may accidentally view the entire episode by mistake.
- Regardless of how you decide to watch, tag all of your spoilers with “lewis spoilers,” “inspector lewis spoilers,” “lewis s8” and “lewis s8 spoilers.”
